ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a type of traditional Chinese medicine where a practitioner inserts needles into specific acupuncture points to promote the flow of energy.

For more than 3,000 years, practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine have used acupuncture to manage a variety of ailments.

Inserting an acupuncture needle causes an increase in circulation, a reduction of inflammation, and a release of neurochemicals, such as dopamine and serotonin. This can relieve pain and promote relaxation.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

Traditional Chinese Medicine explains that health is the result of a harmonious balance of the complementary extremes of yin and yang of the life force known as Qi, pronounced “chi.” Advocates believe that illness is the consequence of an imbalance of these forces.

PATIENT TESTIMONIAL ON ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT

"Dr. Yang was incredibly knowledgeable and professional"

Last month when I traveled in Honolulu I had my first acupuncture treatment with Dr. Annie Yang, and I cannot recommend her enough!

I left feeling amazing - completely relaxed and with a renewed sense of energy. The benefits of the treatment have lasted long after the session. I am excited to continue receiving acupuncture treatment from Dr. Yang when I go to Honolulu again.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME BACK?

Every individual's treatment is different, depending on their condition.

For acute and excruciating pain,  we recommend 3-7 sessions and until pain is resolved.

For long standing chronic pain we recommend at least 2-3 sessions per week for three weeks.

Once improvements are noticed and pain has decreased to a low intensity, you may reduce to 1-2 sessions per week as recommended, until symptoms do not reappear or have improved to their maximum recovery potential.

For internal conditions we recommend at least 2 sessions per week until symptoms are manageable or do not reappear. Dosage is the key to obtaining consistent results.

Consistent acupuncture treatments will reestablish homeostasis or balance in the body and promote self healing.

HISTORY OF ACUPUNCTURE

The ancient practice of acupuncture started in China approximately 3000 years ago. The first documentation of acupuncture that described it as an organized system of diagnosis and treatment is in The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, which dates back to 100 BCE

With the rising popularity of acupuncture throughout Asia, it spread to many other regions and by the 6th century C.E., acupuncture had spread to Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese cultures and then out West. From there, acupuncture has made its way through the centuries and has been on the rise in the U.S. since the 1970’s.
