AMENORRHEA (MISSING PERIOD) TREATMENT
AMENORRHEA TREATMENT
Amenorrhea is the absence of a period in a woman of reproduction age, for reasons not associated with pregnancy or lactation. There are two kinds of amenorrhea: primary and secondary. Primary amenorrhea is when a person older than 15 has never gotten their first period. While secondary amenorrhea happens when a person doesn’t get a period for more than three months.
While not having to deal with a certain monthly visitor might sound nice in theory especially in the summer. However, amenorrhea is actually a serious condition that can have lasting consequences. In addition to missing a period, other symptoms of Secondary Amenorrhea can include:
Nausea
Swollen breasts
Headaches
Vision problems
Being very thirsty
Darkening skin
Goiter, an enlarged thyroid gland
ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT FOR AMENORRHEA (MISSING PERIODS)
In many cases and studies, Traditional Chinese Medicine has proven to be a safe and effective treatment for amenorrhea and other conditions related to menstruation. TCM helps stimulate the body through Chinese herbs and acupuncture treatments in order to regulate the body’s naturally-occurring hormones and restore natural hormone function.
For cases of amenorrhea, acupuncturists like Dr. Annie Yang 杨 of OAHU Central Earth Healing - Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in Aiea, Honolulu seek first to restore and unblock the flow of Qi – that is, the life force that flows through each of us.
Because amenorrhea is a condition related to blood flow, acupuncturists focus their treatment on organs associated with blood flow, including the spleen, kidney, and liver. By focusing on these meridians, Qi can be restored, and that important monthly visitor will show up once more. Most of the patients who seek our help do go on to get their period again after 3 – 6 months of treatment with regular acupuncture.
Acupuncture treatment focuses on balancing hormones, improving blood circulation, and promoting ovulation as well as treating any underlying condition. Most common causes of amenorrhea includes:
A failure to reestablish a cycle after stopping the birth control pill
A side effect of medication e.g. corticosteroids
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Premature ovarian Failure
Low body weight
Too much exercise
Stress
A thyroid imbalance
A hormone imbalance
A Pituitary tumor

HISTORY OF ACUPUNCTURE
The ancient practice of acupuncture started in China approximately 3000 years ago. The first documentation of acupuncture that described it as an organized system of diagnosis and treatment is in The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, which dates back to 100 BCE
With the rising popularity of acupuncture throughout Asia, it spread to many other regions and by the 6th century C.E., acupuncture had spread to Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese cultures and then out West. From there, acupuncture has made its way through the centuries and has been on the rise in the U.S. since the 1970’s.
